Editing and Deleting Events

Learn how to edit event details and delete an event from its Manage overview.

After an event is created, you can update its details at any time or remove it when it is no longer needed. Most people work from the default list view: open the event details page, use the admin Manage menu, then edit the details or delete the event from its Overview.

Open an Event

1

Go to the Events page

From your or main navigation, open your organization's . The page defaults to list view (you can switch to calendar if you prefer).
2

Click the event card

Find the event in the list and click its card. That opens the event's public details page.
3

Use the admin Manage menu

If you can administer the event, a dark admin strip appears at the top of the page. Click Manage to open the admin menu, then choose Edit event.

Note

You need the events.edit permission to see Manage and open Edit event. Ask an organization administrator if those options are missing.
On the event details page, open Manage and choose Edit event

Editing an Event

Edit event opens the multi-step Edit Event dialog with the current settings filled in. You can jump between steps freely while editing.

Common changes include:

  • Basic Info — title, type, visibility, and location
  • Date and Time — start/end dates and times, or the daily schedule for multi-day events
  • Details — short description, full description, cover image, and live stream link

Note

Everything about how the event runs lives under Manage instead: rules and capacity under SetupRegistration, pricing under Money, organizers under People, and Facebook posts or the home-page highlight under Promotion.
1

Make your updates

Move through the steps and change whatever you need.
2

Save

Click Save Changes (or Save and Close if available) in the dialog footer to apply updates.

Tip

If you change the event date and people have already registered, the dialog may ask whether to notify registrants about the date change. You can include an optional reason (for example, venue availability) before sending.

Deleting an Event

Deleting removes the event from calendars, lists, and public pages. Use this when an event was created by mistake or will not happen at all.

Warning

Deleting an event cannot be undone from the product. Double-check that you have the right event before confirming.
1

Open the event's Overview

From the event details page, open Manage. The Overview page keeps every lifecycle action in the menu beside the quick action buttons: duplicate, postpone, cancel, and delete. (Reinstating a postponed or cancelled event is a button on the banner at the top of the page instead.)
2

Click Delete Event

Open the menu and click Delete Event.
3

Confirm

A dialog explains that the event will be removed from your calendar and public pages while registrations and payment records are kept for your reports. Click Delete Event to proceed. You are taken back to your events list when it finishes.
Delete Event lives in the Overview's ⋯ menu with the other status actions

Note

You need the events.delete permission to remove an event. Contact an administrator if Delete Event is missing from the Overview.

What Happens When You Delete

  • The event is removed from calendars, event lists, and public pages.
  • Official community feed posts that linked to the event are retracted so the feed does not advertise a deleted event.
  • Associated registration and related records are kept for integrity, but the event is no longer available for new activity.

Tip

If you only need to hide an event from the public, consider setting Visibility to Private instead of deleting. Private events remain available to signed-in organization members.

Other Ways to Reach Edit Event

The list → details → Manage Edit event path is the usual flow. You can also open the same dialog from:

  • Calendar view — switch to calendar, click a day, then click Edit on the event card in the day list (or click the card when you have edit permission).

From the calendar day list only, one-time events can also show a Delete action on the card itself. The Overview's Delete Event works for every event type you can edit.

Recurring Services: Cancel a Single Week

For a Recurring Service, you often need to skip one week (holiday, weather, building closure) without removing the whole series. Cancel that occurrence instead of deleting the series.

On the calendar view, open the day for that service, then on the service card choose Cancel This Occurrence (optionally add a reason). Later you can Restore Occurrence if plans change.

To change the time, name, or repeat schedule for the whole series, open ManageEdit event from the service details page and save your updates. See Managing Recurring Services for more detail.

Warning

Prefer cancelling individual dates when only one week is affected. Use delete only when the recurring service should no longer exist on your calendar and website at all.

Permissions

  • events.edit — required to use ManageEdit event and save changes
  • events.delete — required to use Delete Event in the edit dialog footer

Permission is granted through roles in . Organization owners and admins typically have both permissions by default.
