Custom Fields
Create custom field tabs and definitions to capture additional member data beyond the built-in profile fields.
Every organization has unique data needs. Custom fields let you add your own fields to member profiles — such as spiritual gifts, T-shirt size, or dietary restrictions — beyond the built-in profile fields.
How Custom Fields Work
Custom fields are organized into tabs. Each tab contains one or more field definitions. When someone fills out the member form (either adding a new member or editing an existing one), your custom field tabs appear as additional steps between the Background Check step and the final Review step.

Tip
Adding Fields to a Tab
Expand a tab
Click Add Field
Configure the field
- Name — the label shown on the form (e.g., "T-shirt Size")
- Description (optional) — helper text shown below the field
- Type — choose from seven field types (see below)
- Required — toggle on if the field must be filled out
Field Types
- Text — a single-line text input, best for short answers like a name or code
- Long Text — a multi-line text area for longer responses like notes or descriptions
- Number — a numeric input for quantities, ages, or scores
- Date — a date picker for recording specific dates
- Yes / No — a simple toggle switch for true/false values
- Dropdown — a single-select dropdown where you define the options (e.g., S, M, L, XL for shirt sizes)
- Multi-Select — similar to a dropdown but the person can choose multiple options (e.g., selecting multiple spiritual gifts)
Note
Reordering Tabs and Fields
You can change the order of tabs and the order of fields within a tab using drag-and-drop. Grab the drag handle (the six-dot grip icon) on a tab or field and drag it to the desired position. The new order is saved automatically.
Editing and Deactivating Fields
Click the edit icon on any field to update its name, description, type, or required status. You can also deactivate a field if you no longer need it — deactivated fields stop appearing in the member form but existing data is preserved.
Warning
Viewing Custom Field Data
Custom field values are visible in two places:
- The member detail panel — click a member in the directory to see their custom field data alongside their standard profile information
- The member edit form — custom field tabs appear as steps in the form where values can be updated
Permissions
Custom field management requires these permissions:
- customFields.view — see custom field values on member profiles
- customFields.create — create new tabs and fields
- customFields.edit — modify existing tabs and fields
- customFields.delete — remove tabs and fields
